In a quest to empower players within the fashion ecosystem, Vlisco Ghana has equipped 240 young fashion designers with entrepreneurship skills to better position their start-ups to leverage opportunity and grow.

Participants were taken through topics such as effective business management, time management and productivity, as well as carving a niche and unique identity for their fashion brands.

The training programme was also to train them on how to apply for the 2022 Vlisco Fashion Fund (VFF) which will kick start on Sunday, May 1, 2022, to Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

Vlisco Fashion Fund is a contest that forms part of the organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) programmes set to support emerging tailors and designers between the ages of 18 to 35 with funding to establish their business in the industry.

It will provide the designers with the opportunity to apply for the fund by presenting their creative and unique works.

In a statement, Managing Director of Vlisco, Fatoumata Doro, hinted that the winner of the 2022 competition will receive funding of €5000, with other prizes including a fully-funded master couture class in the Netherlands.

Unlike previous years, the second and third winners of this year’s competition will also receive funding of €3000 and €2000, respectively.

“Our objective as a business is that all the selected 240 participants are equipped with the right tools for early start-ups in the fashion industry, focusing on basic entrepreneurship skills, business and productivity management techniques, as well as creativity and innovation for designers.

“We present to them an opportunity to place Ghana top of mind, where quality fashion designs and styles are mentioned globally. For a chance to qualify and win in the Vlisco Fashion Fund starting on 1st May 2022, you will need the knowledge gained today.

“I can imagine what your business will look like with any of the prizes, which are: €5000 for the first winner, plus a master couture class, €3000 for the second winner, and €2000 for the third winner,” she said in a statement read on her behalf by the Vlisco Brand Activation Manager – Ghana, Deborah Sowah.

For Ms. Sowah, the VFF presents the platform for the many talented and creative brains to change the fortune of their business through funding and mentoring.

“At Vlisco Ghana, we believe in turning imaginations into reality with our fabrics and our brand purpose, which is why we have over the past nine years given opportunities to young designers to be trained and exposed to world-class tailoring. Through the Vlisco Fashion Fund, nine great brands have been created using our platform.

“This forms part of our contribution to creating decent work and economic growth in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 8,” she added.
