The Osu Mantse, Notse Professor Nii Nortey Owuo IV, has partnered Acentia Energy to present a fully refurbished ultra-modern Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre to the Ringway Estate Basic School in the Korle Klottey Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The ICT centre has 20 computers including accessories with internet connectivity.
The kind gesture is as a result of a promise made by the Osu Mantse to create opportunities for the youth within the Osu enclave especially with regards to the learning of Information Technology (IT) in this technology growing world.
“Today is the culmination of the effort of Acentia Energy towards the progress of Osu. Education has moved beyond chalk and the board. Those who hope to hold and rule to make an impact on society tomorrow, are persons who might be IT literates. They must understand the rudiments of technology because our very world is controlled by technology now.
So, it is an important task to ensure that all children throughout Ghana have the skills, tools and teaching necessary to get them there. If we do our best to improve the lives of our children today, we are sure and guaranteed that we have a better tomorrow,” the Osu Mantse said at the inaugural ceremony of the ICT centre.
Nii Nortey Owuo IV further called for collaboration from other well-meaning Ghanaians to help support him as he brings educational infrastructure and development to other communities under the Osu Traditional Authority such as Boi, Pappau, Haatso, Kotobabi among others.
Managing Director, Acentia Energy Kofi Ankama on his part said the gesture is part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and hopes to extend it to other parts of the country.
“As part of our CSR, we thought it fit that we choose a school which falls within Osu where we can also assist by giving them the necessary equipment’s that the need,” he said.
Professor Nii Narku Quaynor who was the special guest of honor lauded the Osu Mantse and management of Acentia Energy for taking the lead in activities that will bring economic freedom to the people of Osu.
“The world is gradually moving into a cyber space where computing and telecommunications are the key tools necessary for success. We need to give opportunity to the youth to become engaged to this transformation. This will help us be better prepared and realise the benefits in the emerging new economy. Being hesitant or slow to adopt technologies will have long term negative effect.
We the people of Osu understand this very well especially when most of our resources are depleted leaving us principally with our human resource and capacities. It is refreshing that professor Nii Nortey Owuo with his vast international experience is determined to address development of Osu which will bring economic freedom to our people despite the challenges,” he said.
Headmistress, Ringway Estate Basic School, Ruth Ahumah, and Head of Human Resource at the Educational Directorate of Korle Klottey Municipality, Seth Obiri Mante, expressed appreciation to the Osu Mantse and management of Acentia Energy for the ICT centre. They further pledged to keep the computers well and use them for the intended purpose.
