Ghana’s most innovative and socially driven radio station, Happy 98.9 FM, in collaboration with Lakeside Estate has successfully organised the 2022 edition of the ‘Happy FM-Lakeside Marina Family Fun Run and Walk’.
The 12th edition of the run and walk was held at Lakeside Estates around Ashaley Botwe in the Adentan Municipality.
The 6km/ 10km run and walk, organised every year on Ghana’s Independence Day is geared at promoting the need for regular exercising and bonding amongst families in Ghana. It also serves as an activity to promote regular exercise.
The run which started through a conversation between two men who love to run, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Media Allaince (GMA), Ernest Boateng and the Director of Lakeside Estate, Salah Kwaku Kalmoni was held across four cities simultaneously including Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale.
Prior to the event, Mr. Boateng who was getting ready to run had this to say: “I partake in the Happy FM-Lakeside Marina Family Fun run and walk annually to build my stamina and encourage healthy living among staff. I am proud I can see most of the staff of GMA and their families here today.”
Before the run started, participants were taken through a warm up session by Branch Fitness. Runners both young and old engaged in an aerobic session for proper blood circulation before the run. After the end of the race through the mapped out routes in Lakeside Estates, awards and prizes from sponsors where given to families in the various categories.
Michael Adu, emerged the fastest man while Kamil Sadat Mohammed won the prize for the fastest child.
The Fastest Family Award was won by the Obo Family who finished the race in an average time of 37mims 9secs. The fastest over 60 years award was picked by Gabriel Atsu Avenor who finished the race in 28mins 40secs. The Mercy Social School managed to beat stiff competition to win the Fastest School Team Award (Junior Category), for the third consecutive year. David Akrofie Mathias emerged winner of the Fastest Teenager Category.
Director of Lakeside Estates, Mr. Kalmoni speaking about the event said: “We are happy we have been able to re-ignite this initiative after the covid moments. I also want to appreciate all who participated in this year’s event and our sponsors who made our 12 years celebration a remarkable one.”
