Wilmar Africa Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wilmar International and one of the leading agro-processing companies in the country, has presented food items worth GH₵20,000 to Achimota Senior High School (SHS) for winning the maiden edition of the ‘Fortune Alumni Cooking Contest’ held in Accra.
According to Wilmer, a component of the winning prize for the Alumni Cooking Competition is donation of food items to the alma mater of the ultimate winning contestants, and as the winners are products of Achimota School, the school automatically qualified for the products being presented.
The items presented to the school included bags of Fortune Delight KDM Rice, gallons of Frytol pure vegetable oil, and boxes of Frytol seasoning tablets.
The Fortune Alumni Cooking Contest started as a social media campaign that sought people to share their fond dining memories during school days. But the overwhelming response influenced Wilmer to birth a cooking competition that provides a platform for alumni to showcase their cooking skills.
Marketing Manager of Wilmar Africa Ltd, Ewuraba Adusei, in a short ceremony to present the items to the school commended the management and teachers for their hard work and dedication reflecting on the values inculcated into their students that made them stand out in the competition.
She stated that 20 different schools participated in the competition making it a very tough one but Achimota managed to pull through with some uniqueness.
“This turned out to be a very great competition with a lot of discussions going on about it on social media with over two million engagements and so we are hoping to keep it running. We are therefore telling our followers to look out for new announcements,” she said.
The Headmistress of Achimota School, Marjorie Affenyi, expressed her delight to Wilmar Africa Limited for the gesture, indicating that the food items will supplement what they already have to ensure food security, as there have been incidents of food shortages in recent times.
