B&FT joins the world to celebrate IWD 2022

The Business and Financial Times (B&FT), Africa’s leading provider of business information, embarked on a series of activities to celebrate the female staff making strides in respective departments to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2022, which fell on Tuesday, March 8.

International Women’s Day was celebrated on the theme ‘Gender equality today for Sustainable Tomorrow’, and with the hashtag #breakthebias sought to recognise the efforts and honour the cultural, political and socioeconomic achievements of women.

In line with those factors, female staff were trained on personal branding and grooming to further position them for the corporate environment.

In a remark, Chief Executive Officer of B&FT, Dr. Godwin Acquaye, commended women in the organisation for their tremendous contribution toward work output and productivity.  He also mentioned that his outfit will further ensure an enabling environment to see women climb higher pedestals in the corporate world.

He said with his experience working with females, he has realised women have great potential and must be encouraged to step out of the societal norms that limit them. He therefore cited how the Board Chair, Dr. Edith Dankwa, is serving as a role-model to young women because she is determined to break the glass-ceiling.

In her remarks, Human Resource Manager, Rhoda Mensah-Ankrah, lauded the efforts of B&FT and the country at large for promoting gender equality and parity – adding that women’s empowerment in this current dispensation is crucial for sustainable development.

She also urged women to be conscious and deliberate about taking up leadership roles to serve as role-models for the younger generation of girls in the country.

“It is very intriguing knowing that women are also in the forefront of bias against women. In some jurisdictions, women are still sidelined in decision-making. I am however elated that in Ghana efforts have been made over the years to empower women. Women are now at the top pinnacle of their careers, be it politics, religion, corporate, etc.

“As we mark this day with a series of activities, let us be reminded that as women we are dynamic and have great strength to achieve more in any sphere of life. Let us be conscious and deliberate in taking up leadership roles to serve as role-models for the younger generation of girls in the country. I charge all gathered to be united and push the agenda against bias toward our own selves, but rather in unison support each other to defy the odds,” she said.

Launch of B&FT Ladies Charity Foundation

As part of the activities, the B&FT Ladies Charity Foundation was launched in the quest to give back to society. It will be seen annually donating items and cash to orphanages, disability homes and other rehabilitation centres.
