The Rotary Club of Ghana has donated several educational items estimated to be GHC30, 000, to some 200 school children in the Appiatse Community, in the Western Region.
The items, comprising school bags, textbooks, mathematical sets, exercise and note books, school uniforms among others, are expected to help improve education of school within the Appiatse community affected by the recent mining-related incident.
According to the President Nominee, of Rotary Club – Tarkwa, Mr. Abdul Razak Yakubu, while efforts continue to reconstruct the community, Rotary Club Ghana decided to also take keen interest in the wellbeing of the children affected by the incident, particularly their education.
It is against this background that he said an amount of GHC30,000 was raised to acquire materials in support of the education of the children.
He was hopeful that the items would bring significant improvement in the education of the children, in addition to helping to realize Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4). SDG 4 aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”

The Municipal Chief Executive of Prestea Huni-Valley, Mr. Isaac Dasmani, who received the items noted that there has been several developments since the incident.
Of the children affected by the incident, he said 50 have been identified not to be schooling while 197 were already schooling.
Given this, he said the items presented by Rotary Club Ghana, is timely and will complement efforts to ensure that the affected children are adequately provided for to continue with their education.
“These items that you have provided, we are going to work with the Directorate of Education in order to make sure that the needy school children are properly provided for.”
