The CH Group of Companies has donated to the Achimota and Mfanstipim Senior High Schools (SHS) a bus each to enhance the transportation system for students.

This forms parts of the organization’s commitment to contributing to national development by investing in human capital thus ensuring that the educational sector is adequately resourced to deliver improved learning outcomes in the country.

Making the presentation, Chief Operations Officer for CH Group, Cynthia Darko said there is a need to develop a habit of consistently investing in the economy through the least available means.

“For a continent blessed with so much in nature and people, the only thing stopping us from dominating the world economy is the investments and impact of our human resource. The bridge to the future that can be and the present that is today, is anchored on education. If efforts of our forebears would mean much in the future, we need to invest right in the children of today and those of tomorrow,” she said.

She extolled government’s contribution made so far towards providing access to free basic education. “Governments must be commended for heavily investing in improving access to education through the Free SHS and FCUBE policies. But we all see an increased demand for high end private schools across sub regions.

GIS, SOS etc are overwhelmed by applications from Ghana and the rest of Africa and this has helped sustain harmony across tribal and social differences. It presented better opportunities for lower economic class families to transition forward through equal education and opportunities,” she added.

She reiterated that the observation of Africa’s growing middle class gravitating away from the traditional public premium schools should be a concern to all.

“It is a sign of a demand for increased quality education in a global world where our children no more compete just among themselves but rather with the world. To get them to win, they must be equipped as the kids who can get into the Harvards and Oxfords of this world. If Africa’s middle class is prepared to pay for education in GIS or SOS, then they would do same if the quality they desire can be found in our public schools,” she added.

She proffered that government leverage those who can pay to fund the improvement of quality education in the public schools for the benefit of all adding that it will entail the use of private sector funding across Africa to expand, equip and modernise public school in the likes of Achimota or Labone.

She added that revenue be used from fee paying students to fund the non fee paying, premium compensation for teachers and as well sustain the modernity of the facilities to achieve world-class quality of education.
