The Rotary Club of Tarkwa has presented relief items to the people of Apeatse near Bogoso in the Western Region. The items include clothes, slippers, used clothing, buckets, toiletries and food items. These were mobilized from club members, friends of the club and traders from the Tarkwa market.
Buddy Sagoe, President Nominee of the Rotary Club of Tarkwa told the media that “this was in response to an appeal made by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to support the survivors of the Apeatse incident.”
“Announcement made by a radio station and on social media attracted the surrounding town to support with buckets, shoes and sandals for kids, bags, soaps as well as bottles of water, soft drinks, tubers of yam, tomatoes, corn dough among others.”
Loius Afful, Deputy NADMO Coordinator of the Municipality who received the donation expressed gratitude to the Tarkwa Club and the entire Rotary family in general for the humanitarian gesture.
News of the Apeatse disaster rocked the nation on Thursday January 19, 2022. A truck loaded with explosives meant for mining was involved in an accident that led to an explosion which claimed some lives as well as injured scores more. Apeatse village is located a few kilometers away from Bogoso, was raised to the ground because of the explosion.
