The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has held a Tyre Automobile Safety Campaign for drivers of the 37 Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in Accra.
The campaign which was held in collaboration with Rana Motors, dealers of Vulco tyres, was meant to sensitise the drivers on the need to remain cautious and adhere to safety measures in handling car parts including maintenance of tyre safety, regular checking of alignment and other relevant safety measures.
Director of Planning and Programmes at the NRSA, Ing. David Osafo Adonteng, during the campaign, told the drivers on the need to always maintain caution through regular tyre checks and alignment to prevent accidents and vehicular breakdown.
He said the tyre which forms an integral part of vehicles demands extra attention, failure of which could result in dire consequences – the reason why the NRSA has taken driver safety education in recent years to a different dimension.
He asked the drivers to fully participate in such educational campaigns when the opportunity presents itself.
The Vice-Chair of the 37 Branch of GPRTU, Mr Yaw Amoako, expressed excitement towards the campaign and said the education on tyre safety was timely, particularly to drivers under his watch.
Mr Amoako asked the NRSA and Rana Motors to frequently host such campaigns to enlighten and remind drivers of the need to ensure safety.
National Retail Manager of Vulco (Rana Motors), Shalti Shukla said his company will continue to have the interest of drivers at heart when it comes to education on tyre safety and use.
He advised the drivers and their leadership to make vehicle maintenance a habit.
