Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited (Ghana Re) has been renamed Ghana Reinsurance PLC. This change has come as per a resolution passed by shareholders at the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on June 30, 2021.
The corporate name changed as mandated by the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) Section 21 (1)(b), which directs that corporate name of public companies limited by shares should end with ‘Public Liability Company’ or the abbreviation ‘PLC’.
Ghana Reinsurance Company PLC is the biggest and first Reinsurance Company floated in Ghana. It has grown to become one of the largest in Africa and the sub-region. Going forward, Ghana Re has be referred to as Ghana Reinsurance PLC in all publications and contracts with third-party providers.
“We therefore request that all correspondences henceforth with the company should reflect the new name,” says management.
Management also assured the General Public that the change in name will not affect the rights and obligations of Ghana Re, or render defective any legal proceedings by or against the company. Accordingly, all existing agreements and contracts that bear Ghana Re’s old name remain of value and will not be affected by use of its new name.
