Awo Aidam Amenyah has won the woman in philanthropy award at the recently held National Philanthropy Awards in Accra. She was honoured for her devoted service and commitment towards positively changing the lives of children especially for her quest to promote child online protection.
The National Philanthropy Awards in a citation presented to Amenyah said “this recognition is made out to you in appreciation of your devoted service and commitment to influencing policies and changing practices to favour of the well-being of children in Africa and advocating for measures to safeguard children within the cyberspace prioritizing child online protection.
You perseverance, passion and pursuit to have children and young people protected, provided for and to participate responsibly in the digital space is praiseworthy and celebrated. Your enthusiasm, dedication and hard work is a force to reckon with,” part of the citation stated.
The 5th Annual Awards ceremony seeks to recognize and celebrate the efforts of philanthropic entities and personalities who endeavor to go the extra mile in their pursuit of humanitarian causes.
Awo Aidam Amenyah has expressed delight on winning the award stressing that she is humbled for the honor done her and that it is an encouragement and a charge to do more. “God is faithful and just. I therefore dedicate this award to every African child, partners of Child Online Africa and all cheerleaders; because of you I am,” she said.
The National Philanthropy excellence awards was initiated the National Philanthropy forum in 2017 to recognize the contributions of NGOs and humanitarian bodies in Ghana towards national development.
About Awo Aidam Amenyah
Awo Aidam Amenyah is the executive director of Child Online Africa, an NGO which seeks to ensure the safety of children online. She is an HIV/AIDS, Gender Equality and child protection activist and is known both locally and internationally for her work. In 2019, she made headlines by climbing to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about child safety in online spaces.
Ms. Amenyah is credited with leading the process to the development of the draft ‘Ghana Gender Education Policy for the Coalition’ as the Gender officer of the Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition.
Since 2013, she has been at the forefront of the call on government and other stakeholders to put in place measures to safeguard children within the cyberspace. She has considerable knowledge in Child Protection Implementation Standards, gender mainstreaming and interacts well with children.
She is a notable speaker and has been instrumental in bringing together government and non-governmental institutions to tackle issues specifically related to education, violence against girls, child sexual exploitation (CSE) among others. She was also a spokesperson for the Ghana Aid Effectiveness Forum.
