Nana Kwame Nkansah II – known in private life as Louis Yamoah and is the Divisional Chief of Aowin Traditional Area at Jomoro in the Western Region – has been adjudged Divisional Chief of the Year by the Ghana Chieftaincy Awards.
The primary basis for this recognition in his chieftaincy role that won him the award is his facilitation and provision of community development projects for betterment of the youth and the community in general.
The Ghana Chieftaincy Awards scheme and event was the maiden edition, and was put together by Obokese Foundation on the theme ‘Chieftaincy, Catalyst for National Development’, and was held recently at the Centre for National Culture in Cape Coast.
The award scheme, according to the organiser, seeks primarily to reward traditional rulers who are making positive impacts in their respective communities of the country.
The primary focus of the award is to recognise chiefs who have made significant strides in their various communities, as well as urge them to strive for excellence in discharging their duties.
The Ghana Chieftaincy Awards is an initiative by Obokese Foundation and partners, and aims at celebrating and honouring outstanding traditional leaders who epitomise the qualities of leadership, governance and development
The award scheme provided an opportunity for the organiser to reflect upon, celebrate, resurrect and further empower the essential and often unrecognised role that the esteemed chieftaincy institution has played in the Republic’s pre-colonial history; its activism and perseverance during the colonial era; and the role it must play in Ghana’s present neo-colonial chapter.
Nana Kwame Nkansah II is the Chief Executive Officer of the St Louis Group of Companies, headquartered at Takoradi in the Western Region.
The St Louis Group of Companies comprises St Louis Petroleum, St Louis Transport and Logistics, St Louis Food and Beverages, St Louis Firm Foundation – which is an NGO, Nkansah Mines, Jomoro Tano Mines and Five Stars Produce Buying Company Limited, among others.
