Broadspectrum limited, an Information Communication Technology company has sponsored the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana with GHȻ35,000 towards its fourth edition of the Ghana Agribusiness Excellence and Leadership Awards.
The award scheme themed ‘Sustainable Agriculture: A catalyst for food security and job creation’ was slated for November 24, 2021, and aimed at recognizing and rewarding excellence and leadership across the Agribusiness value chain in the country. This fourth edition also seeks to celebrate achievements, agritech innovations and brilliance within the agribusiness environment.
Speaking to the media after the presentation, Razak Awudulai, the group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Broadspectrum limited stated that the action is in line with the company’s interest to support the agricultural sector, as they believe the sector is capable of driving the economy post Covid-19.
“Also we’ve been following the chamber of agribusiness and they’ve been educating their members on the importance of the agriculture industry to the development of the economy. Hence if entities like agribusiness are at the forefront of promoting agriculture, we think that it is only in order that we support their activities and encourage them to do more.
What COVID -19 has taught all of us is that, if a country is not able to produce for its citizens and global supply chains are disrupted, citizens will go hungry. We were lucky that within this period of COVID-19, Ghana was able to have sufficient food to feed citizens even though the global supply chain was at a standstill, the more reason we should support entities that promote agriculture,” he said.
He also said his outfit is working on providing an enabling environment for agribusiness where agriculture could be done using advanced technology. A platform where a farmer can identify an aggregator, an aggregator can identify a factory, and from the factory to the final consumer, what he referred to as the ‘Farm to table’ approach”.
Technical Director for the Chamber of Agribusiness, Dr. Courage Bessah-Adanu expressed excitement and their willingness to collaborate with Broad Spectrum.
“We think that Broadspectrum trying to create an enabling environment is key and we as a chamber are very glad to collaborate with them to make sure that this dream comes to pass. Also because data is key to agribusiness, if they are helping by getting various data within the value chain so we can plan, project and create businesses, their effort is welcomed” he said
Ahead of the 2022 budget reading, Dr. Bessah Adanu said the agriculture sector is expecting a budget that will favour agribusiness to boost growth in the sector.
