Ecom bags two awards at Ghana Business Awards

ECOM Ghana, a leading agro-industrial company, has won two awards at the Ghana Business Awards, as the organization and its Country Director, Muhammadu Muzzammil, were adjudged Agribusiness Company of the Year and Personality of the Year (Private Sector) respectively.

The Ghana Business Awards is a prestigious award that brings together business industry players and recognizes them for the significant role they play in ensuring the growth and development of their business sectors, as well as recognizing key functions within the sector that promote growth and sustainability.

The awards sought to recognize ECOM Ghana’s accomplishments, innovation, and brilliance in the Ghanaian business environment which has contributed to the creation of wealth and prosperity in many rural communities.

Accepting the award, the leadership team of ECOM Ghana, who represented the firm, were thrilled and emphasized their continued focus on excelling in the agriculture value chain to deliver on the mission of creating rural prosperity.

ECOM Ghana has consistently distinguished itself in the Agribusiness value chain through the high quality of cocoa beans and numerous philanthropic activities it undertakes as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility. Since its inception in 2001, ECOM Ghana has made significant contributions to improving the lives of small holder farmers through the Additional Livelihood Programs and technical advice it offers to farmers, with the primary goal of creating rural prosperity.

As a corporate organization, ECOM Ghana engages in several businesses in the agriculture value chain through a conglomerate of companies which increase over 140,000 farmers’ yield, reduce the farmers’ costs, and provide a platform for access to markets, improved knowledge, advanced crop science technology and mechanization, warehousing and logistics, among others.

In 2001, ECOM Ghana operated only as a Licensed Cocoa Buying Company (LBC). It is now one of the leading private LBCs in Ghana, purchasing between 100,000 and 130,000 MTs of cocoa beans per year.

ECOM Ghana has evolved into a conglomerate of companies made up of AgroEcom Ghana Limited, Unicom Ghana Ltd, Sustainability Management Services (SMS), Sourcetrust Ghana Limited, Unicom Specialty Commodities, Crop Doctor Ghana Limited, COFCO, JNF Properties Limited and Kiteko Ghana Limited.

Kiteko is the transport and logistics wing of the business, operating a fleet of 170 modern trucks with top-notch digitized processes and tracking tools. ECOM Ghana takes a “hands on” approach to working with local farmers and it does so through a number of initiatives, each designed to enrich lives.

One such initiative is Crop Doctor, which equips farmers with knowledge about farming, disease control, and identification of infestations. Crop Doctor, at a much lower cost, also provides convenient payment options, ensuring that the farmer makes timely applications without having to worry about his cash flow.

The team has introduced MICROMEC machinery, a technological innovation for easy land preparation, planting, crop maintenance, harvesting, post-harvest loss prevention, and other appropriate mechanization system installation to modernize Ghanaian agriculture and better serve farmers.

ECOM’s Sustainability Management Services (SMS), works with farmers to enable them improve their yield through best practices in Agriculture, Environmental and Social standards. SMS also works on additional livelihood programs, “Farmer Business School” training that equips the farmer with the knowledge to see farming as a business and enables an all-year-round income generation opportunity.

Through the conglomerate of companies, ECOM Ghana continues to place a high value on building strong relationships with a variety of clients in order to deliver on its promise of creating rural prosperity.
