To create a feeling of indigenousness when enjoying a world class vodka emanating from Ghana, Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC, has managed to blend ethyl alcohol with chocolate made with the country’s cocoa to produce a chocolate flavored vodka.
According to Guinness Ghana, the newly launched product, ‘Smirnoff Chocolate Vodka’ was carefully crafted as a global brand with local symbol, to give consumers some sense of pride whenever they are drinking the product wherever they are in the world.
Innovations and Marketing Manager, Benjamin Fenyi-Gyesi, in his address at the media launch stated that Smirnoff Chocolate is made right here in Ghana for the enjoyment of Ghanaians and everyone else.
“Tapping into Guinness Ghana’s vision to celebrate the lives of its consumers every day, with innovative products that they love, our crafters created the new Smirnoff Chocolate as a “glocal” symbol – blending the world’s number one vodka with local Ghanaian chocolate flavour,” he said.
On her part, Managing Director, Helene Wessie, re-iterated the company’s commitment to touching lives through its innovative products, adding that chocolate is a very favorite snack in the world and Ghana being the second largest producer of cocoa in the world makes it a logical choice to produce something like that in the country.
Explaining the concept of production, she said: “We wanted to brand in a way that we can add the chocolate to the spirit itself and so we realized that vodka combined with the chocolate gives the best of taste, giving a better sweetness of the chocolate, and maintaining the soft sweet distilled taste of the vodka.
This chocolate vodka is launched first in Ghana and cannot be found anywhere else in the world, so in the future we may be exporting to other countries but first we want to see how Ghanaians love their own chocolate combined with vodka.
The new Smirnoff Chocolate invites people to effortlessly step up and break from the norm. This isn’t just a great spirit, it’s a spirit made specifically for Ghanaians. It is best enjoyed served on ice or as a part of cocktails.”
Smirnoff Chocolate is available in a 750ml bottle. Madam Wessie, emphasized that Guinness Ghana wants every Ghanaian above the age 18 to be able to afford this product made with their local chocolate, hence, the idea of making it affordable to all.
