GASO Petroleum Limited, a contractor for Abosso Gold Fields Limited (AGL), has presented 10 desktop computers with accessories to Huni-Valley Senior High School (HUNIVASS) in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region.

The computers are to assist the research work of teachers to build their capacity and improve the performance of students in Information Communications Technology (ICT). Also, the presentation forms part of GASO’s corporate social responsibility.

Isaac Asante, CEO of GASO Petroleum Limited, at a brief ceremony explained that: “The computers will offer students opportunity to have practical lessons in ICT”. He assured the school of the company’s continued support in order to improve teaching and learning on campus.

He noted that the school has some challenges and announced that “GASO Petroleum Limited will adopt HUNIVASS for the next three years to help improve its state”.

He added that the company gives employment opportunities to some of the youth in its operational area. “This is part of our recruitment processes; if we put a lot of effort into their training at the initial stage, it will help raise people who are able to offer quality service in the future.”

Mr. Asante urged management of the school to put the items to good use and ensure they provide the needed assistance.

Abdel Razak Yakubu, Regional Manager-Sustainable Development Projects of AGL explained: “We do not force our business partners to support their host communities. The idea was conceived by GASO Petroleum Limited because they believe when a firm is working on someone’s land its fair they give due recognition to custodians of the land,” he said.

He implored for more of such support in AGL’s operational area, and appealed for the old students of HUNIVASS to assist their alma mater.

Daniel Aidoo, Headmaster of HUNIVASS, pointed out that despite the numerous challenges affecting the school, last year out of 398 candidates presented for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination 229 students qualified for admission into various tertiary institutions across the country.

He expressed gratitude to the GASO for assisting the school. “If we become well-equipped, we will be able deliver on our mandate effectively.”
