The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has charged accounting professionals to continue to discharge their duties and responsibilities as required of them against the background that their contribution to the ‘world of business’ is key to economic growth.

The work of accountants, he said promotes business sustainability. He observed that while businesses will thrive with the competence and responsibilities of accountants, one of the resultant impacts is that it leads to an increase in revenue for the government.

He said this is because their diligence ensures value for money as well as the promotion of accountability. Additionally, he acknowledged that the work they do guarantees that whatever is due to any entity including the state is duly catered for.

In this regard, the Asantehene entreated accounting professionals to hold firmly to the principles guiding their professional practice, without compromising to satisfy the parochial interests of supervising authorities.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II gave the advice when a delegation made up of the leadership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace as he enumerated some challenges the accountants are confronted with in the discharge of their profesional duties.

He was however optimistic that these challenges would be resolved to promote the work of accountants wherever they find themselves.

The courtesy call, on the Asantehene, according to the President of ICAG, Professor Williams Abayaawien Atuilik, was to officially inform him about the intent to hold this year’s annual conference of ICAG in Kumasi.

Professor Atuilik also used the occasion to formally invite Otumfuo Osei II to the annual conference, which will take place next month, as the Guest of honour.

Given the contribution of the Asantehene to the social and economic empowerment of Ghanaians, and particularly the focus on education.

ICAG donated GH₵20,000 to support the work of the Otumfuo Education Fund.
