Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) at the Lawra Municipal Assembly, Martin Domotiere Bomba-Ire, has said the Assembly will continue with its efforts to grow the local economy by creating an enabling environment for local businesses to thrive.
According to him, developing local businesses would create the needed jobs for persons within the Municipality. He added that the initiative by the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the Assembly to train young persons in critical aspects of business development, such as financial management and leadership skills development, should lead to a rise in the number and quality of indigenous entrepreneurs.
These pronouncements were made during the handing-over ceremony of a water facility to traders at the Babile Market. “We need to prioritise the development of our communities in the interest of generations unborn over present individual gains by creating a permanent legacy for the sake of our children,” he said during the ceremony.
He added that this is the second such project commissioned by the Assembly in the space of three days, aimed at addressing perennial water challenges in the area – as well as promoting improved water hygiene among the people, especially patrons of the market.
Road networks
On road infrastructure, the MCE said government, through the Assembly, is rehabilitating some roads in the Municipality – including the Babile and Lawra-Domwine roads – to boost economic activities in the area. Other road projects Mr. Bomba-Ire cited included rehabilitation of the Lawra by-pass road, rehabilitation of Tanchara-Koro-Degri road, and rehabilitation of the Eremon-Dazuuri road among others.
Agribusiness
To ease the stress of traders and local businesses, he said that government through the Rural Enterprise Programme, (REP) has constructed a soybeans processing centre at Eremon Kakaltuo to boost the production of soybean products and meet demands of the market.
According to the MCE, the Assembly is currently engaging with the Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Extension agents among other stakeholders to identify perennial issues confronting local farmers. This, he noted, will help increase agricultural productions in the area to enhance food security for the indigenes and country as a whole.
In an effort to enhance adherence to the COVID-19 protocols, Bomba-Ire said the Assembly in collaboration with the Information Service Department and health practitioners has embarked on an aggressive awareness-creation campaign.
