Priority Insurance Company – a member of Tobinco Group of Companies, a fast-growing general insurance underwriting firm – has donated 2,000 bottles of sanitisers to the cluster of schools at Tesano and Airport police stations respectively.
The items were presented by Felix Akyea-Bekoe, General Manager Technical Operations, on behalf of Matthew Kweku Atta Aidoo, Managing Director, to Chief Superintendent Henry Amankwatia, in charge of the Police Education schools.
Speaking at the presentation, Akyea-Bekoe pointed out that the donation is one of many that Priority Insurance has made. More importantly, Priority – in a bid to support schools and their students in the fight against COVID-19 – has decided to present the sanitisers to students to enable them stay protected during the period of uncertainty.
The General Manager Operations also used the opportunity to educate students on the need to observe all the safety protocols: such as washing hands regularly, sanitising their hands, observing social distancing, avoid touching their faces after exposing their hands on various objects, and other protocols as advised by Ghana Health Service and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
He further added that in our part of the world insurance penetration is very low, and therefore craved the indulgence of educational policymakers to include insurance as a subject in the educational curriculum from the lower stage – since it is these pupils that will grow to become business men/women, policymakers and managers in our country.
This will help them to understand and embrace insurance as a necessity and not an option. He finally affirmed that management of Priority Insurance will continue to extend donations to other schools in support of government efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chief Superintendent Henry Amankwatia, who is in charge of Police Education, commended the Management of Priority Insurance for the donation of PPEs to the pupils. He indicates that the PPEs came at the right time when the school needed to support government’s efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Consequently, he made a passionate appeal for other organisations to emulate what Priority Insurance has done.
