Kingdom Exim Ghana Limited has made a donation to support 2020’s edition of the National Farmers’ Day celebration.
The donation is evidence of the company’s continued support to the agricultural sector, and particularly in response to a call by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) for timely contributions.
The items donated included a cheque for the sum of GH¢10,000, some tricycles as well as a generous number of blowers, fertilisers, and pesticides, which were presented at a handing-over ceremony on the premises of MoFA in Accra.
This year’s edition of the National Farmers’ Day celebration, with an emphasis on value-addition, will be held under the theme ‘Ensuring Agribusiness Development under COVID-19: Opportunities and Challenges’, and is scheduled to come off on Friday, November 6 at Techiman in the Bono East Region.
Partner at Kingdom Exim Group and District Chief Executive (DCE) for Techiman North, Peter Mensah – who made the presentation alongside CEO and Managing Director of the Group, Rajamani James and Rajamani Immanuel – revealed that the donation was toward the tree-crop category and expressed the group’s intention to continue support for the category, even as it seeks to expand future contributions to other categories.
Providing the rationale for adopting the category to the B&FT at the event, General Executive Manager of Kingdom Exim Group, Iftin Arthur-Afari, revealed that her outfit was particularly encouraged by government’s attention to tree crops – particularly cashew, oil palm, shea, coconut, mango and rubber, as evidenced by the impending establishment of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA).
With tree crops projected to rake in upward of US$16billion per annum from 2028 onward, she argued that special attention must be given to the segment.
Ms. Arthur-Afari added that having supported farmers in diverse ways away from the spotlight, recent recognitions – including receiving the Presidential Award at the Ghana Shippers Award for four consecutive years from 2015 to 2019 among others – have made it expedient to expand their scope of support by partnering with MoFA.
“We believe that by partnering with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the ministry will be able to assist us with identifying and providing adequate support for farmers to boost their yield for local consumption and for export; thereby increasing the foreign exchange that will come into the country’s coffers,” she said.
Receiving the items, the Minister of State in Charge of Food and Agriculture who doubles as Chairman of the planning committee for this year’s celebration, Dr. Gyiele Nurah, expressed delight with the gesture by Kingdom Exim.
