The Ghana Export-import Bank (GEXIM) has presented a tractor and its accessories to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) towards the upcoming National Farmers’ Day celebrations.
The tractor, worth GH¢3,6200.00, is to be given to the 1st runner of this year’s national farmers awards. The gesture forms part of GEXIM’s continuous support for the awards scheme which seeks to recognise and reward hardworking farmers across the country.
GEXIM’S Chief Executive Officer, Lawrence Agyinsam, in a speech read on his behalf by Isaac Amissah Aidoo, General Manager, Finance, noted that GEXIM had been a perpetual partner in the annual awards for over 10 years.
“We deem it as our national duty since EDIF, EDAIF and GEXIM to perform this singular honour of being part of this national event.
This support is to motivate and encourage our hardworking farmers and fisher folks to continue to play their role in the economy of Ghana,” he said.
“We believe in the financing of the agricultural sector to play its crucial role in national development, especially adding value through processing to export,” he added.
Under the theme ‘Agribusiness Development and COVID-19 Challenges and Opportunities,’ this year’s event will be held on November 6, 2020 in Techiman in the Bono East Region.
For his part, the Minister of State, MoFA and Chairman of the National Planning Committee, Dr. Nurah Gyiele, who received the tractor, thanked GEXIM for its unwavering support for the annual event and the agricultural sector as a whole.
He was confident that the gesture would contribute significantly to efforts to reward and recognise farmers for their hard work.
Last year, GEXIM also donated a tractor and its accessories worth GH¢299,000.00 towards the event.
