MTN Foundation has invested a total of US$15 million in 150 projects in Ghana over the past 12 years. These investments cover areas such education, healthcare and economic empowerment.
On education, the foundation has 87 projects and these are on Information Communications Technology (ICT), dormitories for some Senior High Schools, classrooms, scholarships, springboard and heroes of change.
“We have 52 project under health including hospitals, wards, maternity blocks, surgeries, equipment, CHPS compound among others,” Corporate Service Executive for MTN Ghana, Sam Koranteng said this at a Virtual Meeting dubbed Editors’ Forum for Southern West Business District.
According to him the foundation has 11 projects under economic empowerment and these are hitmakers, micro enterprises, shea butter, my business, KNUST Telecoms Funding among others. Other projects he mentioned are blood donation exercise which MTN has been able to raise 20,045 pints, Y’ello Care as well as staff volunteer programme.
Mr. Koranteng said MTN Foundation would spend more than GH¢10.4 million on 10 on-going projects across the country to support Ghana’s infrastructure development.
The projects, he said, which are at various stages of completion, includes the construction of a 24-unit classroom block for the Police Basic School, Technology Laboratory for GIMPA, a three-unit classroom block for Adzentum community and a Library at Denkyira.
Others he pointed out are a library at Dansoman, girls’ dormitories for Tamale SHS and Adugyaman SHS and youth employment and entrepreneurship projects. He added that MTN Ghana has so far committed over GH¢100 million in support of the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
