The Management and staff of Unique Insurance Company, a leading general business underwriter in Ghana’s insurance industry, donated a consignment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital on Tuesday to support national efforts in the fight against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The consignment comprised various items of PPEs including 10,000 bottles of sanitisers, branded nose masks, boxes of biscuits and toffees, toys to the tune of GH¢25,000 in addition to a cheque of Gh¢10,000 for the hospital’s Children Nutrition and Wellness Clinic.
The hand-over ceremony of the equipment was led by Victor Obeng-Adiyiah, Managing Director of Unique Insurance Company, and it was received by Dr. Charlyne Kilba, Acting Head-Children’s Department, on behalf of the Regional Hospital.
The Managing Director-Unique Insurance, speaking at the presentation ceremony said: “Our tagline as a company – ‘Where your needs come first’ – is not only demonstrable to customers who keep us in business, but also extends to every potential customer since we identify with Mahatma Gandhi in saying that the future depends on what you do today”.
He said it is for this reason that in celebrating customers globally this week, Unique Insurance has planned to extend its warmth to a segment of the vulnerable in our society.
More importantly, children as we all know are vulnerable – especially when they are diagnosed with an ailment. And when such incidences happen, while the child endures the pain of the ailment, parents endure almost equal measures of anguish.
The predicament becomes a dire situation when parents are unable to cater for the cost of treatment.
Mr. Obeng-Adiyiah pointed out that Unique Insurance had an interaction with the management of Accra Regional Hospital, which identified some children whose parent are in this category “hence our gesture of helping to settle some of the cost”.
He revealed: “As a company we will not only evaluate their ability in paying genuine claims promptly but also how they treat their customers, including potential ones like these vulnerable children on admission”.
The Head of department – Dr. Kilba, commended the insurer’s great effort in coming to the hospital’s aid and urged other corporate institutions in the country to emulate such efforts.
