Guangzhou Municipal donates to Accra Metropolitan Assembly

Mr. ZHU Jing, Charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy to Ghana last week presented medical supplies to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly. The donation is provided by the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government.

He said the pandemic of COVID-19 is an unprecedented challenge to mankind. China is the first country to report the pandemic and experienced the suffering of fighting against it.

“Under the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping and thanks to the resolute and rigorous measures China has adopted, the Chinese people united as one and achieved a staged victory in the fight against the pandemic. The Chinese economy has rebound since the second quarter this year” Mr. Jing said.



He stressed that, as the hometown of many Africans in China, Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government has cared about the health and well-being of Ghanaians in Guangzhou and therefore decided to donate 16,000 disposable masks and 100 infrared thermometers to Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

Mr. ZHU said that Guangdong Province has cooperated closely with Ghana especially in the health sector. Guangdong has sent 9 batches of medical team to Ghana since 2009. The medical team brought high quality services to the people of Ghana, spread the culture of Chinese medicine, trained Ghanaian doctors and conducted free outreach medical service including 200 cases of free cataract surgical operations (“Bright Journey”Initiative).

Mr. Mohammed Adjei Sowah, Mayor of Accra, receiving the donation expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for the kind gesture. He further assured them the items will be put into good use.
