The outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang, has stated that the Chinese community in Ghana will continue to support the government of Ghana’s effort in fighting the novel, Coronavirus.
He further stated that the COVID-19 global pandemic is the most extensive to afflict humanity in a century. A serious crisis to the entire world, and a daunting challenge and poses a grave threat to human life and health.
Ambassador Wang said this at separate presentations of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and other items worth several thousand of cedis to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra.
“This is a war that humanity has to fight and win revealing that, China launched a resolute battle to prevent and control its spread. This is as a result of ensuring that people’s lives and health is the most priority and achieving that, China, he noted, adopted extensive, stringent and thorough containment measures, and has for now succeeded in turning the situation around,” he stated.
Ambassador Wang however stated that, there are only a few home-grown confirmed cases right now hence a decisive victory was secured but are still vigilant and extremely cautious.
“Upholding the vision of a global community of shared future, we should support each other and join hands to contain the spread of the virus and protect the health and well-being of people across the globe,” he emphasized.
Above all, Ambassador Wang said, China places top priority in helping countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, especially Africa improve their capacity and performance in epidemic and prevention control.
Dr. Bernard Oko Boye, Deputy Minister of Health thanked the Chinese community for their kind gesture. He said the donation came at a time the government is committed to make the country COVID-19 free as well as safeguarding the well-being of ordinary Ghanaians.
Dr. Oko Boye assured the Ambassador that, the donations will be put into good use and believes the friendship between Ghana and China will continue to be strong as they collectively work to fight the pandemic. Present at the presentation included Leaders of the Chinese community in Ghana and staff of the medical center.
