President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to report COVID-19 symptoms early to health facilities to avoid death.
Delivering his 13th COVID-19 update to the nation, the President explained that most patients who reported to health facilities late either died on arrival or within forty-eight hours after arrival at the hospital.
“The Ghana Health Service has observed that most patients that have been lost to the virus died either on arrival at the hospital, or within 48 hours after arrival.
Unfortunately, we still have some persons in the country who are not taking the dangers associated with this disease seriously, and therefore, do not seek medical help as soon as they have symptoms that suggest an infection of the virus,” he said.
He further intimated that persons in critical condition recover from the virus and encouraged Ghanaians to desist from stigmatisation.
“Most patients, who are critically ill and need intensive care, do indeed, survive the virus, if they seek medical help promptly.
For example, out of 53 patients admitted into intensive care units (ICU) at the Ga East Municipal Hospital and the University of Ghana Medical Centre, since the pandemic struck, 44, that is 83 percent, have fully recovered and have been discharged,” he said.
Ghana’s COVID-19 case count as at Saturday, June 27, 2020 stands at 17,351 confirmed cases with 12,994 recoveries which represents about 75 percent of total positives.
Currently there are 4,245 active cases, with a total of 294,867 test conducted so far. Also 30 persons are critically ill and 112 deaths recorded which constitutes 0.6 percent of positive cases, one of the lowest death rates in the world.
President Nana Akufo-Addo urged the nation to continue to adhere to the safety protocols.
