Final year JHS students to return to school tomorrow

President Akufo-Addo has announced that from tomorrow, June 29, final year Junior High School students will return to school to prepare and sit for their Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E).

Giving further details, the President said JHS3 students will be in school for 11 weeks of preparation and revision before spending the following week to take the B.E.C.E. He further stated that there will be no more than 30 students in a class and there will be a reduced school day with students reporting to school at 9am and closing at 1pm.

He however warned that there will be no breaks outside the classrooms with a ban on assemblies and sporting events as well as the use by outsiders of school premises for religious and other activities will not be allowed.



“In all, we are expecting 750,000 persons comprising of 532,000 JHS3 students and 218 teaching and nn-teaching staff to be involved in tomorrow’s exercise. All Junior High Schools have been fumigated and disinfected and we have secured 45,000 veronica buckets, 90,000 gallons of liquid soap, 90,000 rolls of tissue paper, 40,000 thermometer guns, 750, ooo pieces of 200ml sanitisers and 2.2 million reusable facemasks with all the intent of guaranteeing the safety of the students, teaching and non-teaching staff.”

He noted that additionally, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) have been provided for use across the various schools.

According to the President, the decision was arrived at after consultation with the Ministry of Education, heads of public and private educational institutions, teacher unions and the Ghana Health Service.

Two weeks ago, final year university students together with Senior High School Gold Track students, returned to school.

The President advised that strict COVID-19 protection protocols need to be adhered to in order to ahold of the pandemic.
