Abosso Gold Fields Limited (AGL) has spent a total of GH¢621, 000 on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to support the fight against Coronavirus Disease (COVID 19) in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality.
The first batch of the items which was presented few weeks ago are; 15,670 pocket-sized alcohol based hand sanitizer,754 large bottles of alcohol based sanitizers, 1,080 protective gowns,692 sample collection kits, 90 pairs of wellington boots, 30 Veronica buckets as well as 25 mackintosh aprons.
The second batch of the items includes 21,450 pairs of hand gloves, 5,408 surgical mask, 5,832 N 95, 90 goggles, and 41 hand held non-contact infra-red thermometers.
Mr. Razak Abdel Yakubu, Gold Fields Regional Manager for Sustainable Development Projects presenting the second batch of PPE to the Health Directorate at Prestea Huni-Valley in the Western Region said “we are here, to make our contribution in the fight against this pandemic”.
“Our company, has already donated items such as tissue towels, veronica bucket, alcohol based sanitizers, nose masks, and infrared thermometers among others to persons with disability and our host communities” he said.
He said the company, has always had a good relationship with the communities in which they operate; “we are with you in in this difficult times, our doors are always opened to offer any assistance needed in the fight against COVID 19”.
“Currently, we have slowed down on developmental project; we are ensuring that all protocols are observed at the work place as well as the communities” Mr. Yakubu added.
Dr. Isaac Dasemani, Municipal Chief Executive Officer for Prestea Huni-Valley mentioned that cases of COVID 19 is increasing daily in the area. “We need to make provisions to normalize the situation and expressed gratitude to Abosso Gold Fields for their continued support”, he said.
“This presentation is timely; we will soon launch COVID 19 Relief Fund in the Municipality and urged all stakeholders to support in this direction” he added.
Emmanuel Kofi Tamakloe, Municipal Health Director explained that the Municipality has recorded 31 cases and has 150 samples pending. “The N95 and goggles presented, are mostly needed in contact tracing; we are going to share these items to all health facilitates, including the private ones” he said.
