The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Agyeman Adjem, has called on all police officers in the region to provide a friendly environment for Zoomlion Ghana Limited to fumigate and disinfect their various offices and homes to minimise spread of the novel coronavirus.

He reminded the Command of recent reports that some police officers have been infected with the virus, and cautioned them to observe the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Ghana Health Services (GHS) protocols.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Osei Mensah – who launched the programme, cautioned that anybody caught in public without a nose mask on will be immediately sanctioned and made to do some labour work; such as cleaning, desilting gutters among others.

“If you are caught playing football or draughts or riding a motorbike without helmets you will be severely punished; for the president’s directive of a 25-person limitation in gatherings, it is only for private burials and not any other kind of gathering.”

He warned that if persuasion fails, force must be applied. He assured the contractor (Zoomlion) of his outfit and the Police command as well as the Asantehene’s support. He expressed gratitude to Zoomlion for making Ashanti their next point of call after the national capital of Accra.

The general managers of Ashanti Waste and Adehyeman Waste, subsidiaries of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Philip Yeboah Asante and Franklin Ofori Akuffo jointly assured the police of their safety after the exercise.

Mr. Asante said 158 police stations and barracks are expected to be disinfected and fumigated in the whole of Ashanti Region. The exercise is expected to be completed in five days.

On his part, Mr.  Akuffo said the company will ensure strict professionalism and give it the seriousness it deserves. He said over 500 men are being deployed to do the disinfestation/fumigation and disinfection of the 158 police stations and barracks.

Zoomlion is contracted by the Ghana Police Service to disinfest/fumigate and disinfect all police stations and barracks in Ghana to help safeguard the police officers and citizens from contracting the coronavirus.
