GIA donates GH¢500,000 to COVID-19 National Trust Fund

The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) has donated an amount of GH¢500,000 to the COVID 19 National Trust Fund. The donation was part of the Association’s effort at helping the nation to deal with the devastating effect of the pandemic.

On behalf of the President/Chairman, Board of Directors and Members (Insurance Companies in Ghana), the cheque was presented to the Chairman of the Fund (Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Akuffo) by Mr. Victor Obeng-Adiyiah who is the 2nd  Vice President of the Association.

In a short speech, the Mr. Obeng-Adiyiah congratulated the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the citizenry and the Board of COVID-19 Fund for the relentless efforts at fighting the pandemic. In his view, the pandemic was a threat not only to Ghanaians but humanity in general. He said “It is our hope that together we shall win this war and eradicate the pandemic from our society” and expressed optimism that the donation of GH¢500,000 will go a long to help eradicate the pandemic from the Ghanaian society.



In accepting the donation, the Chairperson thanked the GIA not only for the cheque but also for the marvelous work being done by insurers, in protecting Ghanaian lives and property, through various insurance products. She expressed appreciation for the ‘handsome donation’ and promised that her outfit will put the funds to very good use in eradicating the pandemic.

GIA is the umbrella trade association of the 57 licensed insurance and reinsurance companies in Ghana. Insurers continue to support the fight against the pandemic in diverse ways including provision of insurance for frontline health personnel and donation of various sums to the fund, individually and collectively.
