The contractor of the University of Ghana Hospital project, EDC Engineering and Construction Limited based in Isreal, has donated an amount of GH¢100,000 to the COVID-19 Trust Fund.
This was in response to the clarion call made by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo after he had established the COVID-19 Trust Fund with the view to soliciting support from Ghanaians and corporate bodies as the Country fights the coronavirus pandemic.
Ms. Elizabeth Ayim, who made the presentation on behalf of the company, said the donation was part of the Company’s corporate social responsibility.
According to her, as a company that has a specialty in the construction of health facilities, and has executed a number of projects in the country, the company sees Ghana as one of its major clients, hence the need to support the nation’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
She added that the pandemic has crippled almost every economic activity in the world and this raises a very serious concern which the company deems extremely necessary to support the government of Ghana in its fight against this global pandemic.
Ms. Ayim also believes that the support will go a very long way to reinforce the message that the Health Ministry and the Ghana Health Service have been stressing; the importance of washing hands under running water as well as the application of hand sanitisers among other precautionary measures.
The Chairperson of the COVID-19 Trust Fund, Justice Sophia Akufo who received the cheque on behalf of the Trust Fund, was thankful to the Company for the kind gesture.
She further expressed her appreciation on behalf of the government and further called on other multinational construction firms to emulate the EDC example particularly in this abnormal time of COVID-19.
