Gold Fields donates to Tarkwa-Nsuaem Committee on COVID-19

Gold Fields Ghana Limited has presented items to the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Committee on coronavirus disease (COVID 19) towards the fight against the spread of the pandemic.

The items, which are for onward distribution to the Municipal Health Directorate was in response to an appeal made by the Committee on COVID 19 to Gold Fields for support.

These includes, 35,700 pairs of hand gloves, 20,000 pieces of pocket-sized hand sanitisers and 1,200 large bottles of hand sanitizers, 800 pieces of surgical masks as well as 7,000 pieces of N95 mask.



The rest are 1500 pieces of protective gowns, 800 pieces of sample collection kits, 180 pairs of surgical wellington boots, 80 pieces of safety goggles, 60 pieces of mackintosh aprons, 70 handheld non-contact infra-red thermometers as well as 50 Veronica buckets.

Stephen Osei-Bempeh, General Manager of Gold Fields Ghana Limited (Tarkwa Mine), presenting the items explained that “we are presenting the first batch of PPE we have received, the remaining items, including two ambulances which have already been ordered, will be presented to the committee as soon as they are delivered.”

He noted that the company has developed a comprehensive plan to help prevent infections and spread of the virus at its mine and within its host communities. “We have trained security personnel on the use of the non-contact infrared thermometers to take the temperatures of employees and contractors before they get on-board the buses and also at the entrance of the mine,” he said.

Mr. Osei-Bempeh added that “with the support of the local health authority, we have also established protocols to manage any suspected case at our mine and host communities.”

Gilbert Kennedy Asmah, Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality who received the items on behalf of the committee expressed gratitude to Gold Fields for their immense contribution within their operation area.
