A Legal Practitioner based in Accra, Lamtiig Apanga, has supported 16 Community-based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) centres in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region to help fight the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The supports, which included quantities of hand sanitizers, Veronica buckets, nose masks, hand gloves, soaps, and educational materials to beneficiary health facilities is to complement government efforts in the fight against COVID-19.
Among some of the health facilities in the district that benefited from the items included Zalerigu –Asonge, Gane-Songe, Loagre, Patanga, Dasabligo, Anaamfoya, Nangodi CHPS compounds.
Apart from the health facilities that benefited from the donation of the items, the District Police Command, Regional Information Service Department, some community members including women, men, youth and Persons With Disabilities also benefited from the donation.
The Legal Practitioner, who has formed what is termed as the ‘Lamtiig Apanga Initiative Against Coronavirus’ explained that being a native of Zanlerugu –Gan District, the gesture is to help curb the spread of the pandemic.
According to the philanthropist, he was able to procure the items with the support from friends based in Accra and the region and that plans were far advanced to mobilize more resources to expand the programme to reach all communities across the region in the second phase.
“In addition to distributing the educational materials and sensitizing the communities to obey the protocols of the pandemic, we will also collaborate with the Regional Information Service Department and provide the needed resources to undertake public education on the Coronavirus in the communities in the District,” he said.
All the heads of the health facilities in the district that received the items commended the Legal Practitioner and his team for the kind gesture and appealed to others to do same to help deal with the situation.
Agolmah A. Eunice, a Community Health Officer at the Gane-Songe facility, said she is grateful for the donation, noting that the items, particularly the hand sanitizers, the hand gloves and the nose mask would help a lot.
Some old students from the Bolgatanga Senior High School in the region, who are also friends to the ‘Lamtiig Apanga Initiative against Coronavirus’, joined in distributing the items to the facilities in the area and also participated in the public education campaign on the pandemic.
