ASA offers free medical screening at Bogoso

The Bogoso Business Centre of ASA Savings and Loans Limited, in collaboration with the Prestea-Huni Valley Health Center have organized a free medical screening for the communities within its operational enclave.

The exercise which saw participants screened in malaria, hepatitis “B”, glucose, blood pressure among others saw about 200 people participate.

Mohammad Iqbal Kabir, Western Regional Manager of ASA Savings and Loans Limited in an interview with the B&FT explained that, the screening is to ensure good health care delivery for the people.

He said the company has been organizing free medical screening for its clients annually as part of it Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

In 2017, the company donated various items to 14 institutions and organized 28 health screening across the country, totaling GHc15,7507.

This year, he said the company has budgeted GHc225,000 to be used as its CSR within all the 17 branches and 91 business centers across the country.

Dr. Isaac Mensah, Medical Assistant at the Prestea-Huni Valley Health Directorate in the Western Region pointed out after the screening that hypertension was the most prevalent disease.

He advice those with hypertension to visit the hospital regularly as well as change their lifestyle that will go a long way toward controlling high blood pressure.

“I will recommend that you eat a healthy diet with less salt, exercise regularly, quit smoking and maintain a healthy weight; but sometimes lifestyle changes are not enough and in addition to diet and exercise, your doctor may recommend medication to lower your blood pressure” he added.
