The Akotoe Tsrebuana D/A Primary School in the Upper Manya Krobo district of the Eastern Region has taken delivery of a four-bedroom bungalow valued at over GH¢60,000 that was constructed and presented to the school authorities by Upper Manya Kro Rural Bank Limited.
In a brief dedication ceremony last week, the Board Chairman of Upper Manya Kro Rural Bank Limited, Mr. James Kwame Otieku, told the gathering that Upper Manya Kro Rural Bank Limited became interested in the poor conditions for teachers at Akotoe Tsrebuana D/A Primary School, when they received an appeal-letter from the school authorities.
He added that the bank’s Board and Management were touched by the plight of the teachers, who were having challenges with decent accommodation and as a result refused postings to the school.
He said the Board and Management therefore decided to come to the school authorities’ aid and relieve the authorities of their teacher accommodation problem. He believes teachers have a great responsibility to mould children into becoming responsible adults and citizens, and all this can be achieved if teachers are well-resourced and housed. He however cautioned that where teachers face accommodation problems, teaching suffers – since it will reflect on the teachers’ contribution to pupils’ education.
Mr. Otieku reiterated the bank’s commitment to excellence in academic work and the well-being of teaching staff. He therefore advised the Akotoe Tsrebuana school authorities and teaching staff to put the facility to good use. Constructing the four (4) bedroom teachers’ bungalow forms part of Upper Manya Kro Rural Bank Limited’s contribution to Corporate Social Responsibility within the communities they operate in.
Receiving the keys to the facility, Upper Manya Krobo District Director of Education Mrs. Deborah Babatunde and the District Chief Executive, Mr. Felix Odjao Nartey, both commended the Board & Management of Upper Manya Kro Rural Bank Limited for coming to the aid of Akotoe Tsrebuana D/A Primary School in providing a four-bedroom bungalow for its teaching staff.
They expressed gratitude to the bank for the many projects it has embarked upon in the district, adding that this gesture will spur the teachers on to improve their teaching and learning processes. They both made a pledge that the Akotoe Tsrebuana Primary school, will soon become a model for learning at the basic level within the district. The District Director of Education, Mrs. Babatunde, then called on other public-spirited organisations to emulate the shining example set up by Upper Manya Kro Rural Bank Limited.
In another personal contribution made to growth of administrative work in the school, Rev. Divine Nartey, Head Pastor, Assemblies of God Church in Asesewas – who also doubles as a member of the Board of Directors of Upper Manya Ro Rural Bank Limited – presented a personal computer and printer to the school. Rev. Nartey charged the school authorities not to rest on their oars but continue to build a good school for the community through hard work.
