The Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) has inducted 250 newly qualified Accountants into the Institute. The 3-day event which formally introduced the newly trained Accountants into ICAG after their requisite years of work experience and training forms part of event earmarked to induct the first batch for this year.

Mr. Christian Sottie, ICAG President, advised inductees to exercise a high level of professionalism to impact on their various organizations.

“It is a known fact that everyone looks up to the Accountant for the prudent financial management of any company and that is why it has become necessary for all organizations to employ the services of qualified Accountants to do the job,” he said.

Mr. Sottie explained that ICAG’s role in the training of Accountants has become more relevant than before considering the fact that the country, now than before, requires professionals in the field to play significant roles in the economic restructuring agenda by the government.

Abena Osei-Asare, Deputy Minister of Finance, entreated the inductees to always portray positive image of the Institute and Accounting profession through exceptional competencies on the job.

“At this point, I wish to urge you to desire to be exceptional in your profession by frequently upgrading your skills and competencies in order to be relevant in the job market,” she advised.

Ms. Osei-Asare said in moving Ghana beyond Aid, the country requires not only physical infrastructure to facilitate economic growth but also talents such as professional Accountants to help manage resources efficiently.

She argued the general perceptions of Accountants has been that of numbers crunchers, a person who has just been employed as an afterthought to do the books in order to meet regulatory obligations.
