The Minister for Aviation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has indicated that two new domestic airlines will be coming on stream sometime in the second quarter of the year.
Presently, Africa World Airlines (AWA) remain the only domestic air carrier and the Minister reckons with two new airlines coming on board, it will provide competition.
“We need healthy competition for AWA. BabyJet airlines inclusive, the other I can disclose now” she told B&FT in Parliament.
The Aviation Minister appeared in Parliament on Tuesday to answer questions related to a crash by Starbow airlines in November last year.
According to the Minister, the Ministry constituted and inaugurated a five-member Committee on 8th December,2017 to investigate the accident in order to ascertain the probable cause(s) of the accident and to make recommendations to prevent future occurrence.
On whether there will be sanctions, she explained that that; “I have received the report that is why we came to brief Parliament, a very important body- from there we are going to take our time to look at it – the investigative report is not the basis for apportioning blame, it a fact finding report”.
