2017 Digital Bank of the Year award winner, Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited, has further deepened its partnership with the nation’s premier university, University of Ghana (UG) in the area of payments of fees and charges to the University; as the bank has extended its online collection platform to cover Ghanaian Cedis payments.

Hitherto, only prospective and existing foreign students or their parents or guardians outside the country could pay for services rendered or needed from the University via the UGPay platform deployed by the financial institution.

Now, local students too can log onto the University’s website and click on the ‘UGPay’ icon, enter their Student Number and PIN and proceed to make payment after which a system-generated receipt will be issued as proof of payment for submission to the school.

This service could also be accessed via myghpay, which is touted as Ghana’s biggest online payments and collections hub designed to enable businesses, organizations and associations to sell and collect payments with a Visa or MasterCard, MTN Mobile Money or Gh-link card.

To make payment on myghpay.com, students must log onto the site, select Services, click on the Education category in the menu bar and then click on the University of Ghana icon to navigate straight to the UGPay page to continue the payment process.

The third channel by which payment can be made to the University is via the bank’s USSD mobile banking service *737#. By dialing long code *737*101#, students can pay fees and charges to the University by providing their student ID and the amount to be paid. This service is available to customers of the bank and the general public. While customers have the option of choosing their account or mobile money wallet for payment, non-customers of the bank can only use Mobile Money as a payment source. After payment is made, an SMS notification will be sent as a proof of payment.

The deployment of these secure and efficient channels is a time saver for users as there will be no need to visit banking halls or UG cash office to pay fees.

Commenting on the deployment, Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited, Mr. Lekan Sanusi said it was good to have University of Ghana on board the convenience of making payments online.

“At GTBank, creating convenience for our customers and the general public is our top-most priority hence the provision of several online channels to make day-to-day transactions easily accessible to users. It is great to extend this collection service to University of Ghana local students, and this can be said to be in furtherance of the nation’s cashless agenda.”

GTBank has also partnered with several other institutions in the country to offer alternative convenient payments and collections for their customers. These institutions include Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Central University, University of Development Studies, Ashesi University, Valley View University, Kumasi Technical University, Cape Coast Technical University and many others.
