The Accra Sports Stadium has been handed a massive facelift following government’s decision to splash a whopping GHC12.5m on the renovation of the facility.
The catastrophic arena which has poses a scary picture to spectators and journalists as well as athletes who practice their trade there has finally been unchained to see major rejuvenation before the start of the 2018 Africa Women’s Championship.
The rehabilitation of the only sports stadium in the capital comes after several complaints and calls on government to revamp the facility to keep it in stable condition for spectators.
The Accra Sports Stadium since its renovation in 2008 has been left in a deplorable state which saw many describing it as a risk zone following its poor nature.
With government pumping the GH¢12.5 million for the first phase of rehabilitation, many expect the facility to be reshaped into a modern center for sports.
The renovation works is expected to be completed in September this year for the Africa Women’s Championship which will see the edifice as one of the host venues.
Meanwhile Ghana Premier League sides Hearts of Oak who use the venue as their home ground in the domestic top-flight and Inter Allies who declared their intention of using the facility in the coming season have been compelled to relocate ahead of the new season.
