Christine Churcher, a former Minister of state under President Kufuor’s administration, has been appointed board chair of the Ghana National Gas Company.
At a ceremony in Accra to officially inaugurate the nine-member board, the Chairperson, thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them and promised the board will deliver on its mandate.
“I wish to express my deepest gratitude to the President for the honour done us by appointing us to the board of Ghana Gas Company and I am privileged to lead this team as its chair”, she said. “There are challenges but together we’ll fight these challenges and I believe we’ll make it”, she added.
She was confident that the recent ITLOS ruling will result in Ghana’s gas reserves coming onstream without any interference in exploration, drilling, production, and supply and as such, promised to make safety in the delivery of gas a key area of focus under her leadership.
The Deputy Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko, tasked the newly-appointed board to focus on three key areas in terms of technical, commercial and organisational issues relating to the company.
He stated that government’s expectation was that the company would be developed into a world class gas company that is financially independent in its operations.
“I expect you to lead the expansion of the gas infrastructure as it currently exists through viable financing strategies for its implementation”, he said. “In terms of commercial matters you are expected to ensure that all Gas Sales Agreements and processing and transportation agreements are properly executed” he further espoused.
Other members of the board include Dr. Ben K. D. Asante, CEO Of the Ghana Gas Company, Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, Mr. Stephen Sumani Nayina, Mr. Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli and Abraham Osei Aidooh.
The rest are Mad. Delphine Dogbedah, Nana Owusu Ansah Ababio and Joseph Kwaku Acolatse.
The Ghana National Gas Company was incorporated in July 2011 and has since developed from an engineering and construction company to an operations and gas services company in the last five years. It currently has a daily output of about 450 tonnes of LPG accounting for almost half of national demand.
