Advans Ghana Savings and Loans Ltd Honors 100 farmers

As part of Advans Ghana’s continued support to smallholder farmers and in celebration of the2020 Farmers’ day, 100 smallholder farmers within the cocoa and rice value chains have been trained and honored by some Advans Ghana managers and key partners.

The two events took place in Oda in the Eastern Region and Weta in the Volta Region of Ghana.

Advans Ghana distributed farm related equipment and tools worth over GHC25,000 including Advans branded knapsack sprayers, cutlasses, protective clothing, gloves, wellington boots.

The farmers were also enrolled onto a free one-year life insurance with partnership support from MicroEnsure Ghana.

Training sessions organized for the farmers span across areas such as financial inclusion, insurance and good agricultural practices. These were spearheaded by Advans Ghana, MicroEnsure, RMG and Nyonkopa Cocoa Buying Company to assist them improve on their farming techniques, their knowledge on accessing financial services and how to manage their money.

Advans Ghana is also supported by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, AGRA,  to strengthen their agricultural financing activities.

In his address, CEO of Advans Ghana, Mr. Olivier Bailly Béchet said: “Currently, Advans Ghana emerges as one of the key financial institutions in promoting agriculture and is proud to have already served over 17,000 smallholder farmers with a total value ofGhc4.3 million as loans disbursed to small holder farmers in the rice, cocoa and cashew value chains.”

He added that: “We are commitment to unlock financial services for farmers through innovative approaches and have recently been rewarded during the 4th Sustainability and Social Investment Awards Ceremony where we won the award of Best Company in project promoting & supporting Agriculture and Agribusiness.”

Mr. Olivier Bailly Béchet noted that the goal of the institution in the coming years is to expand its outreach into new value chains and develop more adapted products in partnership with key actors within the agricultural value chains.
