MTN Hitmaker 9: Live stage performances begin

Contestants for the ninth season of MTN Hitmaker thrilled their audience to some danceable tunes and songs that exhibited their vocal prowess as they begun their stage performances and crafts.

Co-hosted by Erskine and Sika Osei, they announced that voting is officially opened. “You can vote by downloading the MTN Pulse App and select your favorite contestant to vote”.

Dubbed: “Unlock Your Flow”, Judges for this year’s Hitmaker are:  female songstress Eazy and award-winning producers; Kaywa and Richie Mensah.

Pashyn took over the first performer for the night who sang to Joe Mettle’s praise medley “Majie Oyi”. The audience followed her lead and wore their dancing shoes to give some praises to God.

Brian followed up shortly afterwards with Westlife’s song ‘Soledad’. His soothing voice gained him compliments from judge Eazzy.

RBJ representing Awoshie sang KiDi’s Adiepena. He combined it with rigorous stage craft and got accolades from Judge Richie for making the song his own and catching the attention of the crowd.

Josh blakk leaned towards Kwabena Kwabena’s “Do no Bi” exhibiting his skills on the acoustic guitar as well.

Gabby Nova sang a classical song “Seven Years” by Lukas Graham. According to him, he selected the song because it best shows his vocal abilities. Judge Eazzy remarked his performance terming it as “amazing”.

Mimi chose to sing Beyoncé’s “Spirit” saying “I love how she put in so much energy in that song”.

NessaCute thrilled the audience to Shy Guy by Dina Kim noting that she personally relates to the song. Judge Kaywa commended her inputs saying “Your performance was awesome and you had a good microphone technique.”

Jimi chose to sing “Medicine” by Timy Dakolo. He said “This song strikes a chord in me and I believe I’d be able to strike the chords of the audience and my fans.”

Kobby Tuesday chose Michael Jackson’s “You are not Alone” saying he grew up looking up to Michael Jackson and “having this platform gives me the opportunity to honor him”.

Kwacy Boat, the only rapper in the show sang a self-made rendition of EL’s “Efa Woho Ben”.

Adepa sang Joe Beckham’s “Na megyae” . She got compliments for Judge Richie for making the song her own and also making it possible for the audience to relate with her stage craft. She still remains anonymous.

Achiaa did Westlife’s rendition of “You raised me up”. Her ability to modulate and hold the fort got her compliments from Judge Eazzy saying “you have a strong voice. Keep it up”.

The Season 9 of MTN Hitmaker comes with a winning cash prize of GHC120,000 and the opportunity to be signed on to an enviable record label in the country.
