Ghana Post MD wins public sector’s Most Outstanding CEO of the Year

James Kwofie, Managing Director of Ghana Post has been adjudged the Most Outstanding CEO of the Year by the Ghana Business Standards Awards at the just ended ceremony at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel.

The awards recognizes standard makers, excellence achievers and responsible organizations and individuals who adhere to the local business requirements while consistently improving their organizations’ performance.

Mr. Kwofie is an experienced corporate leader, an entrepreneur, and public servant with over 20 years of proven success in various industries and continents. He possesses deep knowledge in finance, human resources, and entrepreneurship.

On assuming office, he led Ghana Post Management to develop a four-year strategic plan dubbed ‘Turning Around Ghana Post Business in 4 Years’ which was anchored around changing the culture of the organization to become commercially focused and customer driven. With the endorsement of the plan by the Board of Directors, the plan has been largely achieved except for a few challenges stemming from the effects of COVID-19.

As a result of his leadership, Ghana Post has increased its revenue by 43% in three years, a major turnaround for a company that hitherto had been perennially experiencing negative growth.

From an analogue network of 360 offices with only 30 offices digitized in February 2017, Ghana Post now boast’s, 320 digitised offices nationwide; using state of the art Enterprise Postal System (EPS), new services and payment app known as Ghpostpay and a modern call centre established in 2017, the first of its kind since Ghana Post was set up. Ghana Post now runs on fleet with average age of three years.

It will be recalled that the National Digital Property Addressing System (NDPAS) a key pillar of the Akuffo Addo government’s digitisation agenda to provide addresses to all properties in Ghana was implemented concurrently during this period.

Through visionary leadership, Ghana Post’s transformation has been recognized by both international and local institutions. Among them are Best Customer Care Awards 2017 and 2018 by the Universal Postal Union in Switzerland and Public Sector Campaign of the Year 2018 by Marketing World Awards.

Mr. Kwofie was recently awarded at the 2020 Ghana Development Awards for his outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the postal sector. He assumed office in 2018 as the Chairman of West African Postal Conference till date.

In October 2020, Ghana Post has been adjudged the best African Postal Administration and 57th best in the World. This was revealed in the Universal Postal Union 2020 postal development report. Switzerland topped the ranking as first in the world while Tunisia is first in Arab postal administration and 46th in the world.
