A Legal Practitioner based in Accra, Lamtiig Apanga, has supported 16 Community-based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) centres in the Nabdam district of the Upper East Region to help fight the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The support, which included quantities of hand-sanitizers, Veronica buckets, nose masks, gloves, soap, and educational materials, to beneficiary health facilities is to complement government efforts in the fight against COVID-19.

Among some of the health facilities in the district that benefitted from the items were Zalerigu-Asonge, Gane-Songe, Loagre, Patanga, Dasabligo, Anaamfoya, and Nangodi CHPS compounds.

Apart from the health facilities that benefitted from the donation of the items, the District Police Command, Regional Information Service Department, some community members including women, men, youth and persons with disabilities also benefitted.

The Legal Practitioner, who has formed what is termed as the ‘Lamtiig Apanga Initiative Against Coronavirus’, explained that being a native of Zanlerugu-Gan district, the gesture is to help curb the spread of the pandemic.

According to the philanthropist, he was able to procure the items with support from friends based in Accra and the region; and that plans are far advanced to mobilise more resources to expand the programme so it reaches all communities across the region in its second phase.

“In addition to distributing the educational materials and sensitising the communities to obey protocols for the pandemic, we will also collaborate with the Regional Information Service Department and provide the needed resources to undertake public education on the coronavirus in communities of the district,” he said.

All the heads of health facilities in the district that received the items commended the Legal Practitioner and his team for the kind gesture and appealed for others to do the same to help deal with the situation.

Agolmah A. Eunice, a Community Health Officer at the Gane-Songe facility, said she is grateful for the donation – noting that the items, particularly the hand-sanitisers, gloves, and nose masks, will help a lot.

Some old students from the Bolgatanga Senior High School in the region, who are also friends of the ‘Lamtiig Apanga Initiative against Coronavirus’, joined in distributing the items to the facilities in the area, and also participated in the public education campaign on the pandemic.
