The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has supported the fight against COVID-19 with a presentation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other essential items to two health institutions in the Tamale Metropolis.
The beneficiary institutions, which were the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) and Tolon Health Facility, received Veronica buckets, FFP2 nose masks, high class laboratory gloves, boxes of handwashing soaps, boxes of alcohol-based hand sanitisers and packs of tissue paper to aid activities of health workers in the discharge of their duties for mother Ghana in the midst of COVID-19.
The bank, as part of efforts to fight the virus, has already presented GH¢200,000 to the COVID-19 trust fund.
Deputy Managing Director of ADB, Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu Tali who together with staff of the bank presenting the items at TTH, commended the health officials for their selfless dedication in discharging their duties in the midst of COVID-19 to help safeguard the lives of citizens in the country.
“By this gesture, we want to show our appreciation and also associate ourselves with the good work you are doing in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and rendering services to mankind,” he added.
The hospital was selected as part of beneficiary institutions because of the strategic role it plays in serving the north. It is a teaching hospital and referral centre that serves the five regions within the northern part of the country; and is also a COVID-19 testing centre designated to enhance the fight against the pandemic in Ghana, in particular the northern part of the country,” he said.
According to him, ADB felt the need to complement government’s efforts in fighting against the virus by making the donation to the health facilities to enhance quality healthcare delivery.
Alhaji Tali used the occasion to appeal for other corporate organisations to also support the health facilities and help fight the pandemic in order to restore the economy to its status. “While we continue to observe the health protocols, we should continue seeking the interventions needed to rescue us from this calamity,” he admonished.
The Northern Region Minister, Salifu Sa-eed who received the items on behalf of the institutions, commended ADB for their kind gesture saying the items will help in curbing spread of the virus.
The Northern Regional Director of Health, Dr. John Eleeza, noted that the regional directorate is in collaboration with the security and health officials to ensure the welfare of citizens. He noted that the PPE will not be enough until the outbreak is over, and therefore all must come on board to help fight against the pandemic disease in the region. He also stressed the efforts were being made to ensure all suspected victims get tested to avoid any chaos. He encouraged the public to desist from stigmatising alleged victims of the virus.
