The Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, Wamkele Mene, has received the newly accredited Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Ghana, Rui Orlando Xavier, during a courtesy visit at the Secretariat in Accra.
The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic and trade relations between Angola and the AfCFTA Secretariat, as well as to review ongoing efforts toward the full implementation of the African continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
During the discussions, Mr Mene shared an update on the progress made in the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area, highlighting key milestones and ongoing initiatives aimed at deepening intra-African trade.
He also expressed appreciation to João Lourenço and the Government of Angola for their leadership and steadfast support, particularly during President Lourenço’s tenure as Chairperson of the African Union in 2025.
In response, Ambassador Rui Orlando Xavier commended the Secretary-General for the significant strides achieved in advancing the AfCFTA agenda. He reaffirmed Angola’s commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the agreement, underscoring its importance in fostering economic growth and regional integration across the continent.
The Ambassador also extended an invitation to Mr Mene to attend the upcoming Luanda International Trade Fair 2026, scheduled to take place in July 2026. The annual trade fair is expected to serve as a key platform for promoting investment opportunities and enhancing trade partnerships within Africa and beyond.
The visit reflects the continued collaboration between African nations and the AfCFTA Secretariat in advancing a unified and prosperous continental market.
