GRA launches General Competency Training Programme for officers

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has launched a General Competency Training Programme for an estimated 4000 senior officers within the Authority.

The training which is to improve performance, ethical and customer-centric tendencies, is also expected to also increase professionalism of the officers, leading to increased tax compliance rate and revenue collection.

Commissioner, Support Services Division of the GRA, Dr Alex Adomako Mensah said the GRA has committed itself to making capcity building one of its topmost priorities, knowing that a learning organization is a growing organization.

He said the training programme is carefully crafted and meant to empower and equip senior officers with the right skills and prepare them to assume important roles in the Authority.

The Commissioner SSD, indicated that the training programme will run every week at the GRA Academy in Agotime Kpetoe over a period of time.

“As we embark on this training, let us be focused and actively engage, share ideas and experiences within the Authority, to enrich the teaching and learning experience,” Dr Adomako Mensah said.

The modules to be covered under the training programme include, leadership, customer service, ethics, values and code of conduct for public servants, essentials of the public service human resource management policy framework, office communication among others.

Deputy Commissioner, Training and Development, Augustine Agyei-Sefah, linked the training initiative to the GRA’s 2025 theme, emphasizing the need for mindset shifts to deliver top-notch services.

He stressed that the training is an integral part of the Authority’s quest to achieve its revenue target of GHc220 billion by December this year.

According to him, the training would have a phased implementation throughout this year, with provisions for expansion and continuity in subsequent years.

The Commissioner General, Mr Anthony Kwasi Sarpong noted that the General Competency Development Programme marks a significant milestone in GRA’s human resource strategy.

He asked all stakeholders to support the initiative for a sustained institutional growth, by ensuring timely completion of training modules by all beneficiaries and deepening collaborations with key divisions to track post-training performance indicators.
