Poetry Corner : The Demon’s Crazy Mess

Two men proposed to marry her

No option she had but to bow to the offer

Two men promised to love her

She said the promises were good enough for her

Two men sounded quite convincing

She was ready to feel how convincing

Two men asked for time and patience

She was calm and patient

Two men said she had myriads of aches and pains

She explained it was pains and aches left behind by her former owners

Two men set out to serve her in turns

She agreed on a double-track terms

Biology cloned for them adopted offspring

This one and his siblings

That one and his fingerlings

They were brought up to be Democracts and Patriots

But they grew up to be Hawks and Invincibles

They drank a bile to grow vile

Vicious and Vigilante

They learned to be partisans…pitching against each other’s camp

They carried a knife…crying at each other’s throat

Biochemistry cursed them with a serious malaise of mistrust

They were alloted eight each time

To battle to settle their mettle

The eight for the green lane

Produced green pastures of grain

It was only for the ones with green in their veins to glean

The eight for the blue lane

Produced ample pastures of grain

It was only for the ones with blue in their veins to gain

Meritocracy then gave way to moneycracy

Moneycracy enhanced profligacy

Profligacy promoted arrogance

Arrogance ignored the motherland

II

It was a marriage arrangement for two men to alternate

Alternating every eight

But breaking after every four

Accounting after every eight

But returning after every eight

It was just a manifesting presence

Manifesting a manifesto

Massaging a manifesto

Abandoning a manifesto

—after manifesting a mess

—in the Demon’s Crazy Mess

All inflicted upon the motherland

III

You can heat your cake and halve it

You can also heat your cake in halves

But you cannot bake your cake in halves
