GCB Bank PLC, in its commitment to promote tourism and domestic businesses, has partnered with the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) to attract more tourists to waterfall sites around Ghana.

Launching of tour guidebooks, photobooks and exhibition designed to direct and give more information on Ghana’s waterfalls was held over the weekend, with hundreds of tourists, GCB customers and members of the public attending. The launching was sponsored by GCB Bank PLC, Ghana’s largest bank.

Chasing Waterfalls’ was authored by Steve Ababio and Gina Arthur after months of research and discovery.

Mr. Samuel Aidoo, Executive Director of the Wholesale Banking and Investment of GCB Bank PLC, who represented the Managing Director of GCB – Mr. Kofi Adomakoh, in a speech, described the timing of the exhibition and launch as appropriate – coming a few days after the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, launched the ‘Destination Ghana’ project in the United Kingdom, as part of initiative to drive foreign direct investments (FDIs) and tourist traffic to Ghana.

He said due to the importance accorded the tourism sector, successive governments have been introducing various policy measures for development and sustainable growth of the sector.

He said GCB, as Ghana’s largest bank, has the ambition to support tourism and other Ghanaian initiatives, and urged the public and private sector institutions to support government to “unearth the full potentials of the sector”.

The project, he explained, would open up and advance tourism in Ghana and help create sustainable value for all clients of the bank and Ghanaians in general.

“The waterfall project sits strategically within Ghana’s National Tourism Development Plan. It advances our local tourism, bridges the information gap of our tourists in Ghana, brings up the vast opportunities within the sector, and highlights the premium we must place on conserving and protecting our water bodies and natural resources,” Mr. Aidoo said.

Present at the programme were Mr. Eric Coffie, Chief Digital and Marketing; Mr. Francis Danyi, Head – Strategy & Research Department; Mr. Dominic Cobbinah; Acting Head – Banking Operations; Mr. Leslie Ampofo, Head of Private Banking – GCB; representatives from the British High Commission in Ghana and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture; among others.
