Editorial: GEF panellists propose up-scaling renewable energy to tackle US$3.1bn energy sector debt

The Africa Energy Technology Centre (AETC) has unveiled an ambitious agenda to transform Africa into a global producer of energy technologies, securing the backing of President John Dramani Mahama for its flagship Africa Energy Technology Conference.

“The real tariff question in Africa is not simply whether electricity is expensive. It is whether consumers are paying for efficient power supply — or for losses, debt, weak governance and poor planning.”

Eight laboratory professionals from six African countries have completed an eight-week training programme, in the country aimed at strengthening the continent's capacity to detect, diagnose and respond to infectious diseases.
